Major water PPPs announced in Mexico
The Mexican government issued international public tenders this week for the award of two major public private partnership (PPP) water projects in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.
First, the Los Cabos Municipal Water and Sanitation Agency (Organismo Operador Municipal del Sistema de Agua Potable, Alcantarillado y Saneamiento de Los Cabos, OOMSAPAS) asked for bids PPP to develop a new desalination plant near Los Cabos.
The project will supply 250 litres per second of drinking water to the wider Los Cabos area for 25 years. Bidders are expected to cover the design, construction, equipment, operation and maintenance.
While not included in the official bid call documents, public sources suggest that up to 49% of the total investment amount will be guaranteed by a Mexican development bank. The winning bidder will provide the remainder.
